DISCOVERING NEW ADVENTURES THROUGH
Good morning!
This week's work all revolves around letter writing. We have had a lot of opportunities for written communication lately. After reading some of the messages I have recieved, I believe it would be good to revisit the proper technique for writing a letter. Today's assignment consists of completing a quiz on Google forms about the components of a letter. The form can be accessed at https://forms.gle/Ebrt9ZW3Es9qsdXW8 or by following the link from my Google Classroom. The code again is 7b26nz6. All of the work for this week can be found there.

Good morning,
Today you need to turn in your reading log that shows you have been reading for 20 minutes every day. There are several ways you can turn this in: turn into front office, take a picture and send it to me via text or email. If you have trouble with this, please email me. Because I have been getting many emails about how people are lacking materials to read, I have decided to include resources that you may use to find reading material in this post. There are little free libraries around town, in the front office and outside the front of HBMS on a book cart during lunch pickup where you can pick up a free book to read that does not have a return date. At these places, you can donate books you have read and pick up new ones at any time. The Alachua County Mobile Library has several options for downloading reading material and even has options for you to listen to books online. You may also place a hold and use curbside pickup to check out the book from the library as of last Wednesday. It is important to note that HBMS will abide by the Alachua County Library District's Summer Reading Program. You may get more information here. Sign up for this program starts June 4. Our school district also has a wealth of resources online. If you log into myPortal, you can access resources like Teen Book Cloud, Destiny Library Automation (search engine for ACLD), The Gainesville Sun, and TumbleBooks. For my class, I am not particular about what you read, especially during this time, but that you are reading consistently. Reading is a way to develop vocabulary, background knowledge, and stamina for reading to understand new concepts. Once again, please contact me if you are having trouble with this or anything else that I am able to help with. Happy reading, Mrs. McCartney Hello,
I am aware that the "Strength in Numbers" CommonLit article is not working. Don't worry about completing that assignment. Please email me if you have any more questions. Today's assignments:
Good morning!
If you are doing online work for my class, please join my Google classroom. The class code is 7b26nz6. All of the assignments are posted there and can be completed and turned in through Google Classroom. Today's assignments:
Good morning,
Today you need to read for 20 minutes and document in your reading log, then write a reading response to what you have read over the past week. A reading response consists of a brief summary and your thoughts about the reading. This must be at least 6-8 sentences total, but may be more. For your convenience, I have opened all assignments on Google Classroom and CommonLit between now and the end of school. Once you complete these assignments, you are done with my class! Remember that all assignments since Spring Break can be turned in for full credit, even if they are late. Please turn your work in. If you have questions, please email me. All the best, Mrs. McCartney Hello everyone!
Last week, I mentioned that it was wonderful to see a sense of community even though we are apart. This week our readings and writing assignment will revolve around this question: what makes a community? Today, I would like you to read and complete the CommonLit assignment "Diary of a Teenage Refugee." Each day, I need you to read something of your own choice for 20 minutes and document in your reading log. Write your weekly reading log on your own paper. Be sure to include the following information: date, title and author, length read, time read (at least 20 min), and parent signature. If you have any questions, please send me an email to let me know. All the best, Mrs. McCartney Once again, the code to my Google Classroom is 7b26nz6 You must use your school email to log in. Happy Friday,
Please submit your reading log for this week. You should be reading for 20 minutes every day. All due dates are flexible. You have until May 29 to turn work in. If you need help, please send me an email. All the best, Mrs. McCartney Good morning,
I am available for video conferences for anyone who would like to talk or ask questions. Send me an email if you would like to set one up. You can also contact me through email or Google Hangouts if you prefer. Today's assignments: 1. Read for 20 minutes and document in your reading log. 2. Writing Assignment: Both “The Days Have Names” and “The Clock Man” talk about time, but they do it in different ways. Compare and contrast the two poems and the messages they express Also note that our class has a Google Classroom that may make assignments easier for students working online. The classroom code is: 7b26nz6 Good morning,
I am so glad to be hearing from many of you, and even more to see that some of you are helping each other! It is so important to keep that sense of community right now. This week, the poems I have selected have to do with the idea of time. Keep that in mind as you read for tomorrow's assignment. Today's assignments are as follows: 1. Read for 20 minutes and document in your reading log. 2. Read the poem “The Clock Man” and answer questions. Hello,
Due to the lack of response or attendance, I will not be hosting a Google Meet conference unless requested. If you would like to talk, please send me an email or contact me on hangouts to let me know. Today's assignments: Read for 20 minutes and document in your reading log. Write your weekly reading log on your own paper. Be sure to include the following information: date, title and author, length read, time read (at least 20 min), and parent signature. Reading response: Write a summary of your reading this week (highlights, not details), then reflect on your reading with the following questions: - How did the reading make you feel? Why? - What did you think about while you are reading? - What genre is your reading? How did you come to that conclusion? - What do you think will happen next? Remember to use the R.A.C.E. Strategy (Restate, Answer, Cite, Explain) when writing the reflection. |
