DISCOVERING NEW ADVENTURES THROUGH
Today was Awesome! We analyzed the article we have been working on for details to support given main ideas, had an eating contest (ice cream), and wrote a mini-essay answering the question "How is an experiential learning different from learning about a topic through text?" We had some really great contributions in the discussion and completed the assigned tasks. There is no homework tonight besides preparing for the vocabulary quiz tomorrow.
Hello all and happy 100th day of school!
This week we are working on informational reading, reading and taking notes on the class novel, and vocabulary. The topic of the week for the informational text is "The World's Fastest Eaters" talking about speed-eating and eating competitions. Tomorrow we will be comparing experience to text and will be conducting a simulation of an eating competition. We will hopefully finish chapter 3 of Ghost by Jason Reynolds by tomorrow and will be moving on to chapter 4 on Friday. Most classes have finished, but a couple are catching up a bit. The vocab for this week is as follows:
Have a great Wednesday! Mrs. McCartney Today we had a skills test and vocabulary quiz. The skill we worked on this week was main idea and summarizing. Following this, 3 classes got to present short skits reenacting chapters 1 and 2 of Ghost. The other 2 classes were required to write an essay and present it in front of class. Both activities were designed for the purpose of practicing public speaking. Students who did not get a chance to participate will need to present on Monday.
Today we started with an activity focusing on main idea and summarizing. The plan was to use the time remaining to work in groups on a skit reenacting chapters one and two of Ghost by Jason Reynolds. Some classes got through this successfully, some did not finish, and some classes were given an alternative assignment.
Alternative assignment: Write a five paragraph essay comparing yourself to Castle Cranshaw from the story. How are you similar? How are you different? Do you agree with how Castle handled the situation at school? What would you have done differently? There is a vocabulary quiz tomorrow! Today we continued working on main ideas and key details with a new article about China's one child policy. We answered multiple-choice comprehension questions today about this article.
We then read the class novel, Ghost by Jason Reynolds, and finished class with a vocabulary activity. Hello all! We went to the library today and had a lesson on plot and main idea. We went over the plot elements, practiced with one story, then had the opportunity to try with a different short story.
We introduced this week's vocabulary today. The worksheet that was filled out today will be taken for a grade and used to complete vocabulary activities in class for the rest of the week. The vocabulary words for this week are as follows:
We will have a quiz on these words on Friday. |
